A
New Life
It's
a funny story as to how I began taking GED classes. My husband, Ron, (in
picture with me), used to come to GED classes and I decided to go with
him one night. Thelma came over to talk to me and asked what I thought
about signing up myself. I said yes and three years later I'm still here.
Ron happened to go to Carole's tech class one day and I went with him and
this is how I ended up in the tech class. I happened to bring my daughter
Leann and she attended for a while also. The GED and tech classes have
taught me many basic skills that have made a tremendous impact on my life,
such as: reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
Learning
these things has helped me in my job at the Good Will Store. For example,
my job is to keep track of all the items in the household department and
add them up. Before I started taking the GED classes I didn't know how
to write the items out or how to add them up, but now that I have these
abilities, I can do it all on the computer. Learning these things has also
helped me to relate to people better because I have more to talk about.
I can now read about current events in the newspaper and better understand
the news.
The GED
classes have not only helped me in my professional and social lives, but
they have also made a big difference in my personal life. I now feel more
confident about myself and I feel like I'm a good role model for my children.
I have learned never to listen to people who say you won't make it because
I know from experience that hard work pays off. |
