A New Life

It's a funny story as to how I began taking GED classes. My husband, Ron, (in picture with me), used to come to GED classes and I decided to go with him one night. Thelma came over to talk to me and asked what I thought about signing up myself. I said yes and three years later I'm still here. Ron happened to go to Carole's tech class one day and I went with him and this is how I ended up in the tech class. I happened to bring my daughter Leann and she attended for a while also. The GED and tech classes have taught me many basic skills that have made a tremendous impact on my life, such as: reading, writing, math, and computer skills.

Learning these things has helped me in my job at the Good Will Store. For example, my job is to keep track of all the items in the household department and add them up. Before I started taking the GED classes I didn't know how to write the items out or how to add them up, but now that I have these abilities, I can do it all on the computer. Learning these things has also helped me to relate to people better because I have more to talk about. I can now read about current events in the newspaper and better understand the news.

The GED classes have not only helped me in my professional and social lives, but they have also made a big difference in my personal life. I now feel more confident about myself and I feel like I'm a good role model for my children. I have learned never to listen to people who say you won't make it because I know from experience that hard work pays off.

How I Met My Husband

I met Ron with my dad.  He used to bring him up from work at night.  He left Ron and me in the car.  I started to tickle him to make him laugh.  He asked me to come to his house to take care of his mother.  I hurt his mother a little bit on the arm.  I went to the kitchen and started to cry.  Ron came out and asked me what was wrong and I told him that I hurt his mother and was so sorry.  Then he told me to get up out of the chair and to come to him.  He told me that he started to care for me.  He started to kiss me, holding me in his arms.  That made me feel better.  He had to go to the hospital to have his toe cut off. I took care of him at his house.  His mother went to the hospital with pneumonia.  She went to the nursing home to stay.  I started to come down to see Ron on his day off from work.  He asked me to be his girlfriend.  We were so close together all along for three years.  Then he asked me to be his wife and I said “Yes!”

Hester and Ron Get Married

I am walking up to the church to get married to Ron. My daughter Leann is my Maid of Honor and my son Sam is Ron’s best man. My eight grandchildren were all flower girls and my father, Joe, gave me away. My daughter Penny was taking care of my mother-in-law at the wedding and my other daughter, Ann, was doing sign language for Leann. I got my picture taken with my flower girls. My dad used to take Ron to work. That is how l met him. Our wedding day brought him up from work. I liked to make him laugh. When his mother went into the nursing home, I wound visit Ron on his days off from work. One day he asked me to be his girl friend. We were so close together, and we have been together for three years. There he asked me to be his wife, and I said yes. Work has been keeping us apart, so at night is the only time we get to see each other.

MY HORSE IS OUT TO PASTURE

My horses are close to the fence. They are running around the farm. They are happy to run around the pasture.
